About

Welcome to Kate Collins; bespoke affordable bridalwear designed and handmade in North-East England. In the bright, welcoming studio situated on the stunning Northumberland coastline, I will take time to get to know you and hear about your wedding plans during an initial free consultation. We will discuss your personalstyle and the feel of your wedding day, as so much of this is reflected in the final dress design. During the consultation I will sketch a design and take notes on the fabrics you like. There are hundreds of intricate laces, silks, beaded embroideries and a range of made-to-measure dresses to try on for inspiration too. Then following the appointment, a design pack will be posted to you with a finalised design, fabric swatches and a quotation. The next stage is to return to the studio to confirm the design and have measurements taken. We usually have 2-4 fittings to create your outfit and to make sure we get it to fit perfectly. Any extras, such as custom-made veils or hair accessories, can be created then too.

Every outfit is made in a bespoke way, so the variation in style is endless and with my experienced guidance we can refine the design to make your dress perfect and individual. I have always had a passion for what we wear, and after training and working in the Costume Industry for TV, Film and Theatre, I found a love also for bridalwear. That was over 15 years ago now, but my love for the vintage elegance of the 1930s and my knowledge of historical corsetry, for example, still form a large part of my work today. I draw on this experience and like to work it into contemporary designs, expertly cut and tailored for the individual, beautifully made and hand-finished.

I’m so lucky to enjoy my work, from design to creation, but the most rewarding part has to be seeing a client, who often I have grown to know well during the process, spin around happily in her wedding dress in the studio before her big day!
